Mack Trucks, Inc. was founded in 1900 by Jack and Gus Mack in Brooklyn,
NY. The Mack brothers were building cars already because they already
owned the Fallesen and Berry carriage company. They released thier first
truck in 1900. Mack then moved headquarters to Allentown.

The company's trademark is the Bulldog. In 1917, during World War I,
Mack trucks earned this nickname when the British government purchased
the Mack AC model. British soldiers dubbed the truck the Bulldog Mack
which reminded them of the tenacious qualities of their country's mascot,
the British Bulldog. This was part of the popular culture follwoing the
great enginneriing. Form followed function and sales did too. Mack was
a major military contractor on a much larger scale in World War II than
the other commercial truck manufacturers. Mack trucks served the Allies
with prime movers, personnel carriers, wrecker trucks, tank transporters,
and others.
Mack was one of the first truck manufacturers to apply four-wheel brakes
to heavy-duty trucks, increasing braking ability and safety. 1953 marked
the introduction of the Thermodyne open chamber, direct-injection diesel
engine, establishing Mack's tradition in diesel performance and fuel efficiency.
